Mermaid Figurehead finished and Sealed

A coat of linseed oil has darkened things, a bit.  The wood was so light colored before,  I was blissfully unaware of some of the flaws.

She is designed to be mounted to the bow with wood screws and epoxy, from the back of the tail.  I carved her with her hands in her hair for a couple of reasons. To add interest and for stability. If her arms were outstretched they would be quickly broken off.  If they were down at her side the pose would have been boring.

She’s anything but boring.

There are things that could be worked on.  But you go to sea with the figurehead you have. Not the figurehead that you might like to have.

Now that she has her coat of epoxy,  she’s ready.
